As the second-largest school district in South Carolina, Charleston County School District offers a wealth of resources and opportunities to each and every one of its students. The district serves over 49,000 children in a diverse community that ranges from urban to rural and covers over 1,000 square miles of coastal lands. The district employs over 3,400 full-time teachers and 600 teaching assistants and boasts a graduation rate of 83.8%. The district is proud to offer a wide range of programs for its students, including those in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, music, creative and performing arts, career and technical preparation, military, and more. The district is constantly looking for ways to expand and improve its programs to even better prepare its students for success after graduation.

Programs and opportunities for students
To ensure that the specialized needs of every individual are met and every child has a chance to grow and develop, Charleston County School District offers a wealth of academic and extracurricular programs to its students. Specialized schools include neighborhood, charter, magnet, and Montessori schools. Special academic programs include the IB (International Baccalaureate), career and technology education, STEM Initiative, ROTC, Head Start, and both Special Education and Advanced Learning opportunities. The district also offers students a variety of extracurricular activities and athletic opportunities.
Meet Wando High School
Wando High School educates approximately 4,000 students in grades 9 – 12 on its 100-acre campus in Mount Pleasant. The district boasts 19 National Board Certified staff members, and 76% of its faculty or staff hold advanced degrees. In 2019, 504 students were named AP Scholars, and 93% of the graduating class planned to attend 2- or 4-year colleges or continue in technical colleges. The school offers over 250 courses, including Advanced Placement and college courses, as well as a wealth of clubs and organizations and 23 sports and athletic programs.
